Who or what is a case manager? In a social services setting, a case manager is the person who knows what and where the services are, and how to get you connected with them. A case manager may be a social worker, a nurse, or someone with a lot of experience working in their particular community. Above all, a case manager is an advocate for the person he or she is working with. A case manager will assess an individual’s needs and match them with the available services that most closely match those unique needs.
The Janet Goeske Center is home to the first case management program for seniors created in the City of Riverside. Marilyn Lynch created the Senior Advisor program in 1995 and became one of the first people in this area to provide advocacy, advice and case management services specifically for seniors. Since then, the Senior Advisor program has grown to provide services to nearly 700 people each year, on a wide variety of topics. Marilyn’s development of this program has been incredibly successful, and as the senior population continues to grow, we expect that the need for advocacy and advice will grow as well.
To meet this increased need, JGF, in collaboration with Humana, has expanded the Senior Advisor program to a second location in Riverside. A Senior Advocate will be available for appointments at the Humana MarketPoint Office, 19318 Jesse Lane, Ste. 150, Riverside CA. Appointments are available on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, between 9 AM and 1 PM. The Foundation’s Senior Advocate, Kate Panepinto, is a gerontologist with 12 years of experience providing care management services to seniors and their families. Appointments are free, and open to seniors and their family members and friends. Anyone with questions about services, programs, and resources related to aging is encouraged to come and meet with our Senior Advisor or Advocate.
