Yoga For Older Adults
Health, fitness and overall wellness for older adults are high priorities for Janet Goeske Center, and many of the 160+ activities and programs at the center reflect these priorities.
Exercise classes at JGC include Zumba, Water Aerobics, Chair Volleyball, Yoga, and many more. Yoga is especially beneficial for older adults, as it offers low-impact cardio exercise, strengthening, resistance training and stretching in just one workout. A recent article by AARP states that “yoga has a powerful effect on stress and hypertension, and can help people reduce the amount of medication they need.”
JGC is lucky to have several excellent yoga instructors who teach classes here. Our yoga classes are so good that we want everyone to be able to attend! Starting in April 2016, yoga instructor Jennifer Mumford will begin teaching classes at the Humana Offices located at 19318 Jesse Lane, #150, Riverside, in addition to the classes she teaches at JGC.
Jennifer Mumford has been teaching yoga at JGC for ten years. She is a certified yoga instructor, with nearly 500 hours of yoga education and teacher training,
Currently, Jennifer teaches eight yoga classes a week at JGC. Six of the classes are more traditional yoga classes, and two are chair yoga classes, great for individuals who may have difficulty standing for long periods of time. Jennifer states that she loves the spirit at the center, and she loves the dedication and enthusiasm of her students.
