Heart & Soul Line Dance
February 7 | 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Wednesdays at 3:30pm (Beginners) *Donation | Wednesdays at 6:00pm (Mixed Levels) ($4)
Line dancing is a social dance form that can be done in groups, with no partner needed. It is a “gateway” exercise that can energize formerly sedentary people and has led some to move on to the regular performance of other exercises. Line dances are performed to Motown, R and B, Gospel, Salsa, Jazz and Country music. Overall it’s a great low-impact exercise “disguised as fun”!
Studies have found that dancing provides social and cognitive benefits in addition to physical benefits. The exercise increases the brain chemicals that assist in the growth of nerve cells. While you are learning new dance steps the brain power boost helps improve memory skills. Dancing can also reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Other benefits include improved balance/coordination, increased stamina, improved self-confidence and bone density, as well as a reduction in heart disease and stress/tension.
Members are encouraged to bring their own drinking water and to wear shoes which are appropriate for dancing, eg., no sandals or flip flops.
